JESSICA RADKE MALTEZ AND BROOKLIN SCHOEN MEET IN FEATURED BOUT THIS AFTERNOON
Jessica Radke Maltez, 38, of Wurk Gym/Peek A Boo Boxing and Brooklin Schoen, 18, of the Community Boxing Club in Wisconsin will box each other this afternoon at Element Gym’s “Fall Brawl 3”. Both boxers competed at the 2023 National Golden Gloves tournament (Radke-Maltez at 132, Schoen at 119) against the best in the Nation this past Summer. You can expect to see that level of talent when the two boxers meet in this featured bout. Jessica and Brooklin shared details about how they began boxing and more with MinnesotaBoxing.com heading into today’s show.
JESSICA RADKE MALTEZ: “I started boxing when I came home for winter break from college, and my brother was boxing. So I went with him to the gym. I liked the style and guts and movement of the sport, so I stuck with it and found a gym in the cities. I started boxing out of Uppercut Gym in Minneapolis in 2011 with Jason Hendrickson and James Okoth. After that, I started boxing out of Peek A Boo Boxing in 2014 as I worked in Wisconsin. Coach Boyd took me to about 25 fights or so. I competed at the old world Ringside tournament and won my weight class of 141 lb Novice in 2011, then also fought at USA nationals in 2014 and was hooked since then. I paused in 2016 when I had my kids, and came back just this year. I came back to fight in 2023 and won the Upper Midwest Golden Gloves and competed at the National Golden Gloves this year. That was one of my best memories. I won bronze at that tournament by beating who I felt was the best fighter in the weight class.”
“I am going to be looking for a pro fight soon, since I feel that I competed well at the national level. I am training regularly at Wurk gym in Hopkins with Coach Daleco, and also training and being managed by Coach Boyd from Peekaboo boxing.”
BROOKLIN SCHOEN: “I began boxing when I was 10, it was something to let my anger out. I was told through family about the sport because I have some cousins who were in it. Some of my favorite boxing highlights and moments so far are becoming the first National Champion in my gym, and fighting girls who I look up to, along with meeting those girls I look up to.”
When asked for her thoughts on what fans should expect when the two boxers meet, Schoen replied “I’d say expect talent from both ends. Experience as well. I’d say it will be a good fight. The age is a big difference, but that’s not what matters. What matters is, is giving your all no matter who you face in the ring.”
There are currently 16 bouts scheduled with the doors opening at 2 PM and action set to go at 3 PM.
Tickets are priced at $25 (pre sale $20) and $40 for ringside. Element Gym is located at 655 Fairview avenue, St. Paul, MN.
