TRUAX STOPS BETANCOURT IN 4

WBA #7 ranked middleweight “Golden” Caleb Truax (26-2-2, 16 KOs) of Osseo, MN stopped Melvin Betancourt (29-4, 23 KO’s) in the 4th round on Saturday night at the Black Bear Casino in Carlton, MN. Truax and Betancourt mixed it up in the first and second rounds but Truax began to take over in the third with flush shots to the head. A hard right hand to the jaw by Truax dropped Betancourt to the canvas in the fourth round. Bettancourt made it to his feet by the count of seven but said he could not continue when asked by referee Scott Erickson. The time of the stoppage was 2:31 of round 4.

In other action, Jerren Cochran (11-0-1, 4 KO’s) and Duarn Vue (8-0-2, 3 KO’s) battled to an 8 round majority draw. One judge saw it 79-73 for Cochran while the other two saw it 76-76, 75-75.

Vicente Alfaro (7-4, 1 KO) defeated John Franklin (9-1-1, 4 KO’s) by unanimous decision over 8 rounds. Scores read 76-75, 76-75, 78-73.

Joe Amouta (4-1, 2 KO’s) won a four round unanimous decision over Deangelo Curtis (2-2).

Daniel Placeras (3-0, 2 KO’s) knocked out Trevor Marmon (2-6, 2 KO’s) at 2:29 of the first round.

Gavino Gouman (1-0) defeated Jose Homar Rios (0-2) with a unanimous decision victory over four rounds.
