VIDEO: Richman Discusses Bare-Knuckle Showdown With Cochrane Set For Sept 10th
Mike “The Marine” Richman of Rosemount, MN will travel to Omaha, Nebraska on September 10th, 2021 to face hometown favorite Dakota Cochrane in the main event of BKFC 21. The highly anticipated bare-knuckle boxing match-up will be streamed live on PPV via the BKTV app.
Richman says that Dakota Cochrane has been on a tear recently and that nobody really wants to fight him. Cochrane is a well known mixed martial arts veteran that has turned his focus to bare-knuckle fighting. Naturally, “The Marine”, who’s always looking for big challenges accepted the fight.
“You’ve got Cochrane who’s a bull, you’ve got me and I’m a bull, but I’m a talented mother fu—ing bull, and we both like to go for the kill” said Richman. “I put on exciting fights and I like to knock people out. I like to press the action and stay in the pocket. All the things that make a fight dangerous are what make me dangerous. Bare-knuckle is a sweet thing. When you have the style and the talent and get to see someone in there that really knows what they are doing, it’s a really awesome thing. I think that’s why the fans are excited for this one.”
Bare knuckle boxing is a throwback to the early years where iron-men battled without gloves or padding over 20, 50 and even 100 plus rounds. As stated on Wikipedia, bare-knuckle boxing originated in England with the first professional champion James Figg claiming the first title in 1719.
Professional bare-knuckle boxing was never actually legal in the United States until Wyoming became the first to legalize it in 2018. Prior to that, the National Police Gazette would setup matches and sanction championship bouts throughout the 1880’s. According to Sportshistoryweekly.com, the last major bare-knuckle match took place in 1889 between legend John L. Sullivan and rival Jake Kilrain. Sullivan battered and stopped Kilrain in round 75 and was later arrested for engaging in the illegal prize fight.
Richman is a rare talent, having fought at the top level of MMA including the UFC, Bellator, LFA and more. His boxing skills have always turned heads during sparring sessions throughout MN gyms and he is 2-0 in professional boxing. A mix between Prince Naseem Hamed, Arturo Gatti, and John J. Rambo, Richman says he wants to go down as the best new age bare knuckle boxer in the young but growing sports history.
