WILL TRUAX DEFY THE ODDS VERSUS PLANT?

“Golden” Caleb Truax (31-4-2, 19 KO’s) battles Caleb Plant (20-0, 12 KO’s) tonight while attempting to snatch his former IBF super middleweight world title from the hands of the current champion Plant. Truax will head into the fight a huge underdog but that is nothing new for the Minnesotan.

In 2017, Truax was a 50-1 underdog when he beat James DeGale for the same IBF title. Last Wednesday, Truax was again listed as a 50-1 underdog again Caleb Plant.

“I’ve always been the underdog and I embrace that role,” stated Truax. “I fight my best when I’m in that spot and I look forward to proving all the naysayers wrong again.”

In comparison, James “Buster” Douglas was a 46-1 underdog when he knocked out Mike Tyson for the heavyweight world title in 1990. Truax told MinnesotaBoxing.com that he will have to wait until after the Plant fight to compare him to DeGale but admits the Brit had more experience and had been in with the better fighters. Truax had a great camp and got some solid rounds in with Cruse Stewart and Tony Woods. Eric Hinderaker who manages Stewart and Woods says that Truax,37, appears to be in the type of shape that won him the title in 2017.

“Caleb is looking sharp and better than I’ve seen him in years. He’s ready and I’m expecting him to have a good performance!” said Hinderaker.

“I’m going to win because I’m the most experienced and the best fighter that Plant has ever faced,” said Truax. “I believe my experience, my pressure, my conditioning and just my determination will be the factor in getting the win and I expect to do so on January 30.

“In a perfect world, it’s a slug fest, a crowd-pleasing fight and I get the win in a 12-round decision. Actually, in a perfect world I go out there and knock him out with the first punch. But we all know that’s not going to happen. He’s a good fighter so I expect to go 12 rounds and just get the job done.”

The IBF Super Middleweight World Championship is scheduled for 12 rounds and will be televised live on FOX 9 at around 8 PM Central time.
