WILLIAMS DEFEATS SANDS FOR TITLE

Phil “The Drill” Williams (15-7-2, 14 KO’s) became the Minnesota State Cruiserweight champion earlier tonight after stopping former champ Al Sands (15-2, 13 KO’s) at 2:36 of the first round. Sands threw some nice hard jabs to get the fight rolling. Williams didn’t flinch though and inched his way in towards Sands to close the gap. Fighting out of the southpaw stance, Williams landed a hard left hook that caught Sands on the chin. Sands stumbled but fired back. Williams didn’t hesitate though and rushed in, landing two more flush lefts to the head followed by a right to the head and finally the body that sent Sands down to the canvas. Sands bravely got to his feet and stumbled back to a corner where referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off.

Robert “Bravo” Brant moved to (17-0, 11 KO’s) with a third round stoppage of Lekan Byfield (6-11-2, 1 KO). Byfield proved to be tricky at times but was not able to stand up to the powerful and accurate shots from Brant. After the bout, Brant announced that his next fight will be televised November 6th on Showtime, most likely from Las Vegas.

Romon Barber stunned Cerresso Fort when Fort was not allowed to continue following the conclusion of round five. Both fighters threw and landed heavy shots throughout. Fort was hurt early but fought back valiantly for many rounds, trading with Barber despite not appearing to fully have his legs back under him. Barber landed some big shots as the fifth came to a close and referee Mark Nelson waived the fight off at the advice of the ring physician between rounds 5 and 6.

Antwan Robertson outpointed Philip Adyaka at the concussion of five rounds of action. scored read 48-47 on all three judges score cards.

George Carter Jr. of Illinois won a unanimous decision over Ricky Smith after five rounds of action. Scores read 49-46 on all three cards.

Mohammed Kayongo landed a bone breaking shot to the ribs of Raul Munoz that sent Munoz down and out early in the first.

Markus Morris knocked down Patrick Cape multiple times before stopping him a 1:54 of the opening round.
