ZARZAR STOPS EALY WITH BARRAGE IN FIFTH
Mengistu Zarzar (7-7-1, 6 KO’s) of Brooklyn Park, MN by way of Atlanta, Georgia predicted a stoppage victory and that’s what he got moments ago at the Kentucky Center for African-American Heritage in Louisville. Zarzar won by TKO over Jade Ealy (2-6, 1 KO) in the fifth of a scheduled six round light-heavyweight bout.
Fighting at the lightest weight of his career (174.6), Zarzar was still shorter than his opponent Ealy. The southpaw Zarzar made it difficult for his opponent to land much of anything other than a jab throughout the fight. Zarzar himself had trouble landing solidly with hard looping punches early on but did not stray from his game plan. Zarzar popped the jab and calmly pressed forward while throwing looping hooks out of the crouch.
Heading into round four, Zarzar found himself in the clinch of the taller Ealy which made it difficult to land a solid blow. However, Zarzar’s pressure began to wear out Ealy and that opened up opportunities which he took.
A nice hard jab followed by a flurry of head shots on the ropes by Zarzar near the end of the fourth round hurt Ealy on the where he was given a standing eight count just as the bell sounded to end the round. Ealy looked winded and hurt as he went back to his corner.
Sending blood, Zarzar stormed out of his corner to start the fifth round. Attacking with left and rights thrown from the hips, Zarzar battered Ealy on the ropes until the corner of his opponent threw in the towel.
