ZARZAR UNFAZED BY OPPONENT’S LAST MINUTE PULL OUT
Brooklyn Park, MN/Atlanta, Georgia southpaw Mengistu “The Great” Zarzar (8-7) was ready to box for the third time in as many months this Saturday night in Louisville, Kentucky. Riding a two fight win streak, Zarzar was on target to hit a career low weight of 168 on the scales tomorrow afternoon opposite Colorado’s David Garcia. However, Zarzar got the disappointing call that his opponent had backed out and he would no longer be fighting this weekend. The news was disappointing following a Minnesota training camp he says was back at Lyke’s Gym working with and taking pointers from Caleb Truax and Joey Abell. Coming off of a first round KO win last month in his 17th professional bout, Zarzar is unfazed by the fight cancellation and has lined up another fight on July 17th.
” I started out with a perfect record (6-0) but took some outta states fights not knowing the business. No excuses. I don’t understand how a guy pulls out of a fight the last minute. I fought a 19 and 2 cruiser weight champ with one eye from the third round to the 8th round. Never got stopped but the referee stopped it cause of the injury. I fought through it. So I don’t understand fear. I don’t understand how guys back out of fights the last minute. I am not saying names or disrespecting anyone because I am a vet in the game now but i don’t understand how you call yourself a boxer but you are scared of certain fights or people. It doesn’t add up. At the end of the day I take nothing personal. Its all business.
I will be back in Colorado July 17th. It doesn’t matter who I fight on the 17th because I am used to guys ducking me anyways. Whoever!! I am just trying to build my record cause the top guys at 168 look soft to me. As far as the nation and the African TV coverage wait on me. I am coming!”
Zarzar says something big is setup on the horizon if he rattles off a couple more wins so stay tuned.
